See all articlesNon-consensual Intimate Media Policy
At Cantina, we are committed to creating a safe space for all our users. Sharing, distributing, taking or creating sexually explicit or suggestive images of other people without their consent is a severe violation of personal privacy and safety. For that reason, we take the impact of sharing intimate media of somebody very seriously and we aim to prevent the harm that the public distribution of intimate content can cause. We will take appropriate action against any content or accounts in breach of this policy.
We define the creation, sharing or distribution of non-consensual intimate media as the creation or sharing of intimate or sexually explicit content without the knowledge or consent of the person depicted. This includes media that was captured or created without the person’s awareness or consent, such as deepfakes, footage from hidden cameras, creepshots, or recordings of sexual assault. It also covers content that was initially shared or created with consent, such as in a private relationship, but later distributed without permission.
What violates this policy?
- Posting, sharing, or distributing intimate images or videos of someone without their explicit consent.
- Posting, sharing, or distributing private sexting photos to anybody other than the intended recipient.
- Threatening or coercing someone into sharing intimate images on the Cantina platform.
- Using Cantina to create, manipulate or alter intimate images (i.e. deepfakes). We have zero tolerance for attempts to upload unauthorized images of someone with the goal to create intimate media using our Artificial Intelligence tools. For more information, visit our Generative AI media policy.
- Sharing manipulated or altered intimate images such as deepfakes without consent.
- Encouraging or facilitating others to post non-consensual nudity or sexually suggestive content.
- Attempting to obtain intimate images of someone without their consent, including hacking accounts or devices.
- Creating rooms dedicated to sharing this type of content.
- Offering or soliciting stolen intimate or sexually explicit images of somebody.
Violations of this policy may result in the removal of content, temporary account suspensions, or permanent bans, depending on the severity of the breach.
How can I report violations of this policy?
Reporting safety violations is essential to ensuring your safety and protecting the broader Cantina community. If you encounter content on Cantina that you believe violates this policy, follow these steps to report it. In addition, if you find yourself in a room where content of this nature is being shared, report it and consider removing yourself from the space.
If someone is sharing or threatening to share intimate images of you or someone else, the most effective way to notify us is by emailing our Trust & Safety team on support@cantina.com with links and screenshots of the specific post or comment containing the images or threats.
Additional resources
In addition to reporting the content to us, there are resources available to help victims remove non-consensual intimate images, such as:
- StopNCII.org: This is a free, online tool provided by the U.K. non-profit South West Grid for Learning. It supports victims of non-consensual intimate media by helping anyone over the age of 18 protect their private images and videos online. StopNCII.org allows online platforms to detect and remove intimate media that has been shared without consent, all while safeguarding the victim's privacy. You can access the tool or learn more about how StopNCII.org works here.
- Take It Down is a free, confidential service created by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to help individuals, particularly minors, remove or prevent the spread of intimate images or videos online. It is designed to give people control over sensitive content and to combat the harm caused by non-consensual sharing. Individuals aged 13 or older can directly submit content for protection as well as parents or guardians who can use the tool on behalf of minors under 13. For more information or to use the service, visit Take It Down.

- Bot characters that depict or resemble public figures outside of a strictly parodical simulation or that attempt to deceive users by portraying a non-existent affiliation or endorsement by said public figure.

All user interactions, including interactions with bot characters, are subject to the Community Guidelines. In addition, interactions should be authentic and reflect genuine user engagement.
When you add bots to a room, you are responsible for the content they generate. As such, we recommend that you make sure they are suitable to the room in question. If you're unsure what a bot character is designed to do, play it safe and don't add it.

Generative AI Image Policy
Cantina users can use Generative AI technology to create images on demand. The following guidelines aim to strike a balance between creative self-expression and maintaining the safety and respect of everyone in our community.
Warning: Rooms in the Cantina may contain AI-powered bots that generate content based on user-directed prompts and messages. The resulting content may be offensive, inaccurate, and potentially harmful. Do NOT rely on them for accurate information, guidance, or counseling. By creating, activating, and/or interacting with bots, you assume all risks related to your bot use as outlined in the Terms of Service.
Cantina’s approach to providing a safe environment includes taking into account intent and keeping our community accountable for their engagement with bots. Please note that while an image may not in and of itself violate our Generative AI policy, we reserve the right to take action if we deem that the user’s intent is in contravention of our guidelines. To do so, we may investigate factors such as account behavior, previous prompts and comments, as well as history of engagement on the platform. In addition, we hold our users accountable for the content they seek to create through Cantina’s bots, whether it is by requesting drawings, selfies, designing a bot’s avatar or uploading a photo to serve as the bot’s avatar.
We rely on a combination of user reporting and proactive monitoring by content moderators and automated technologies to foster a welcoming environment for our community, and to identify and remove content that may violate our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Please make sure it complies with all other Cantina policies. Cantina reserves the right to remove content or restrict accounts based on legal risk or community standards.

Misleading and deceptive conduct
Malicious and deceptive conduct lead to a decrease in trust in our platform and create a negative experience. Conduct or content that disrupts, harms, or otherwise violates the integrity of Cantina is prohibited.
You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations to mislead, confuse, or deceive others, nor use a fake identity in a manner that disrupts the experience of others on the platform. You may also not circumvent our enforcement actions by using other accounts or identities.
What is a misleading or deceptive conduct?
One of the main elements of an identity on Cantina is an account’s profile, which includes a username (@handle), account name, profile image, and bio.
An account’s identity is deceptive under this policy if it uses false information to represent itself as a person or entity not associated with the actual account owner.
In addition, we may also consider deceptive accounts or assets such as bots controlled by the same individual and established with the goal to mislead and/or confuse our community about the account’s true identity or affiliation or to evade enforcement under our Community Guidelines as inauthentic conduct.
Fake identities, which may use stolen or computer-generated photos and fabricated names to pose as a person or organization that doesn’t exist, are also considered deceptive when they engage in disruptive or manipulative behavior.
What violates this policy?
We prohibit the following behaviors under this policy:
-
Impersonation
You cannot pose as another person, group, or organization in a way meant to confuse or deceive other users. -
Deceptive Fake Identities
You cannot use fake identities to interfere in civic processes, spread disinformation or spam, carry out financial scams, or abuse/harass other users. -
Ban evasion
Circumvent an account suspension or room ban by using other accounts or fake identities or by offering access to your account or soliciting access to another’s Cantina account for the purpose of evading enforcement action or safety systems.
What is not a violation of this policy?
Cantina allows the use of pseudonymous accounts, meaning an account’s profile is not required to use the real name or image of the account owner. Accounts that use pseudonyms or appear similar to others on Cantina do not necessarily violate this policy so long as their purpose is not to deceive, manipulate, or impersonate others.
Who can report violations of this policy?
Anyone can report a suspected misleading or deceptive identity directly from the account’s profile.
In cases where an account is suspected of misusing a specific individual or entity’s identity, we may need more information to determine whether the account is run or authorized by the entity portrayed in the profile. To ensure we have enough context, we may need a report from the portrayed party or their authorized representative in order to take action.
How can I report violations of this policy?
If you believe an account is posing as you or your brand, you or your authorized representative can file a report. If you believe an account is using a deceptive fake identity or misusing somebody else's identity, you can flag it as a bystander by reporting the account’s profile.

Serial Reporter
Ensuring users have a safe and welcoming space to build communities is at the core of our product.
We equip users with self-moderation tools to manage their own experience. One of these tools is the report button, which enables everybody on our platform to bring harmful content, accounts and interactions in violation of our Community Guidelines to the attention of our Trust & Safety team. The resulting reports of users, rooms, messages, videos or bots are investigated by our team, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For users, the reporting tool is a primary means of protecting their community and seeking accountability against bad actors. For us, it plays a critical role in our larger content moderation process: to identify abusive content we use a combination of proactive detection that relies both on automated technologies as well as manual investigations, and reactive detection through the adjudication of user reports by our T&S team. This reactive detection helps us spot and address abuse.
To avoid delays in the handling of genuine reports and to ensure that we can respond promptly to urgent violations of our policies, we have strict guidelines around the abuse of our reporting features.
Any user who is found to abuse the report button with a harmful intent to silence voices runs the risk of losing their privilege to use it.
What violates this policy?
We do not allow the adversarial use of our reporting feature. Examples include consistently reporting content and accounts with the goal to suppress speech, bully, harass, or intimidate others.
- Reporting users without utilizing our self-moderation tools to take alternative protective measures such as blocking or room banning
- Repeatedly reporting content or accounts that objectively don’t violate our Community Guidelines in an attempt to get other users suspended or pieces of content removed
- Using the report button to target other users unfairly
- Reporting content due to personal disagreements
- Submitting excessive or frivolous reports with the intent to overwhelm our moderation team
Guidelines for responsible reporting
When used correctly, the reporting tool ensures that we can swiftly investigate and take necessary action against harmful behavior. To ensure that it remains a useful and effective feature, please follow these guidelines.
- Report genuine issues: Use the report button only when you encounter content or behavior that clearly violates our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
- Avoid false reporting: Do not use the report button to settle personal disputes or to target other users.
- Limit reports to specific issues: Provide detailed and specific information about the issue you are reporting to help our moderators understand and address it effectively.
- Respect the process: Trust & Safety moderators review reports carefully and take appropriate actions based on our policies. Avoid submitting multiple reports for the same issue.
How can I report violations of this policy?
If you encounter someone who is a serial reporter, we encourage you to bring their account to our attention, and to share as much context as possible so that our team can conduct an investigation and take appropriate action.
