Cantina takes enforcement seriously, and we want our community to understand how enforcement decisions are made and how to challenge one if you believe it was made in error. This article explains the types of enforcement actions Cantina takes, when you'll be notified, and how to submit an appeal.
How does Cantina enforce its policies?
When a user, bot, or piece of content violates Cantina's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, we may take a range of enforcement actions depending on the severity of the violation and the account's history. These can include:
A warning
Removal of content
Temporary restriction of a specific feature (for example, a limited-time removal of the ability to report other users)
Temporary account suspension
Permanent account suspension
Not every enforcement action results in a full account suspension. Some actions, like a temporary feature restriction, are narrower in scope and are intended to address a specific pattern of misuse without suspending the account entirely. When we take one of these narrower actions, we notify the affected user so they understand what changed and why.
When will I see a suspension notice?
If your account has been suspended, temporarily or permanently, you'll see a suspension screen the next time you try to log in to Cantina. This screen will let you know that your account has been suspended for violating our Community Guidelines and gives you the option to contact our Trust & Safety team to appeal the decision.
Because enforcement is tailored to the nature of the violation, not every enforcement action triggers this screen. Feature-level restrictions, content removals, and warnings are typically communicated to you directly (for example, through an in-app notification or message from our team) rather than through the suspension screen, since your account itself remains active.
How do I appeal an enforcement action?
If you believe your account was suspended in error, you can submit an appeal by:
Tapping Contact Trust & Safety on the suspension screen, or
Submitting a request directly through our Help Center, selecting Issue you are experiencing > Access issue > My account has been suspended
When you submit an appeal, please include any context you think is relevant to your case. This helps our Trust & Safety team review your account more efficiently.
How does Cantina review appeals?
Every appeal is reviewed by a member of our Trust & Safety team. We evaluate each appeal in the context of the specific policy the account allegedly violated, taking into account the nature of the alleged violation, the account's history on the platform, and any information the user provides as part of their appeal.
Because our policies cover a wide range of behavior, from age requirement violations to harassment to child sexual exploitation, the specific evidence we review varies by case. For example, appeals related to our 18+ age requirement are generally resolved through the age verification process described in that article.
Following review, we will let you know the outcome of your appeal. Depending on our findings, we may reinstate the account, uphold the original enforcement action, or, in some cases, modify it.
