Likeness Policy

Introduction

Cantina respects individuals' rights in their own name, image, voice, likeness, and privacy. This policy explains how to submit a complaint if you believe content on Cantina misuses your identity, and what happens after you do.

This covers your identity — your name, image, voice, or likeness — or your privacy. If your concern is instead that a copyrighted work was copied or distributed without authorization, see our DMCA Policy instead.

This applies to all content on Cantina, including user uploads, AI-generated media, and avatars.

Submitting a complaint 

To submit a complaint, tell us:

• Who you are and how to reach you (or, if you're not the person depicted, your relationship to them)

• Where the content is — a link or enough detail for us to find it

• What about it uses your name, image, voice, or likeness, and why you believe it's unauthorized

We may follow up if we need more information. 

You can submit a complaint by selecting Likeness Concern on our reporting form.

How we review complaints 

We review each complaint individually rather than applying an automatic rule, since publicity and privacy law varies by place. We look at the full context — including whether the use is commercial or promotional, how much it's been transformed into something new, and whether it could confuse people into thinking you're involved or endorse it. Content involving minors, private individuals, or intimate imagery gets expedited, heightened review. A creator calling something "parody" doesn't settle the question on its own.

What happens next

• We may restrict or remove the content.

• The person who posted or generated it will be told why, and how to appeal.

• Either of you can appeal if you think we got it wrong.

Filing an appeal 

If you think a decision was made in error, contact us at likeness@cantina.com and explain why. Someone who wasn't involved in the original decision will take another look. For account suspension or terminations, you can appeal at any time within six months of the decision.

If you’re in the European Union, you may also be able to bring your complaint to a certified out-of-court dispute-resolution body, instead of or in addition to appealing to us.

AI-Generated and Synthetic Likeness Content 

Because our tools can generate or alter images, video, or audio using AI, we also consider: 

• whether the likeness came from your own uploaded photo or voice;

•  whether the content shows you saying or doing something you didn't; and 

• how realistic it is. 

Realistic, unauthorized depictions of real people are treated as their own category, regardless of any parody or transformative argument.

Repeat violations

We may suspend or terminate accounts of users who repeatedly misuse someone else's identity.

Important Notes

• Submitting a knowingly false or misleading complaint may have legal consequences.

• Abuse of this process may result in action under Cantina's policies.

• Complaints about a copyrighted work being copied or distributed without authorization go through our DMCA Policy instead.
