Enhance your Cantina experience while expanding your friend group by following other members.
On iOS and Android
- Tap the room's name at the top of the room to open the People grid.
- Tap the avatar of the person you want to follow.
- From the action sheet that slides up, tap View Profile.
- On their profile, tap Follow in the top right corner.
On Web
- Click the room's name at the top of the room to open the People list.
- Click the avatar of the person you want to follow.
- Click View Profile.
- On their profile, click Follow next to Chat.
Follow someone from Search
On iOS and Android
- Tap the Search bar.
- Type the person's name.
- Under Top Matches or People, tap Follow next to their name.
You can also tap the People tab at the top of the results to filter to just people.
On Web
- Click the Search bar in the left sidebar.
- Type the person's name.
- Click the person you want to follow to open their profile.
- Click Follow next to Chat.
Follow someone from your Home feed
On iOS
- Tap their name or avatar.
- Tap Follow in the top right corner.
On Android
- Tap their name or avatar.
- Tap Follow in the top right corner.
On Web
- Click their name or avatar.
- Click Follow next to Chat.
How to Manage Room Invites
To manage your invites on iOS:
- Rooms you are invited to join will appear in the middle of the Home tab. Select Join Room or hit the
to decline the invite.
To manage your invites on Android and Web:
- Rooms you are invited to join or host will appear at the top of the My Rooms tab. Select Join Room or select
to decline the invite.
Note: Room invitations will expire in 60 days.
How to Send Direct Messages to Users
Direct messages (DMs) are private spaces for close friends. You can video, audio, and text chat, play games, and share content just like in a Cantina room. Unlike Cantina rooms, direct messages have no room roles.
To send a direct message to one member on iOS and Android:
- Send an individual direct message by tapping on a member’s avatar.
- Select Send Message (iOS) and Message (Android).
- Start typing your message.
To send a direct message to one member on Web:
- Navigate to the "People" section.
- Select a member's avatar to send an individual direct message.
To customize who can send you a direct message on iOS and Android:
- Navigate to your
Profile.
- Tap
Settings in the top right.
- Tap Privacy
- Decide who can send you message requests.

- If you choose Everyone on Cantina, you can be messaged or added to groups by everyone except people you've blocked.
- If you choose Only People I Follow, you can't be messaged or added to groups by anyone you don't follow.
Note: Customizing your direct messaging is currently unavailable on the web.
To access your direct message on iOS and Android:
- Once you create or are added to a direct message, you can access your messages by clicking on
People.
- Select Messages.
To access a direct message to one member on Web:
- Navigate to the "People" section.
- Select a member's avatar to send an individual direct message.

Every week a new theme drops. Themes are inspired by current trends, pop culture, or whatever's having a moment.
If your AI Selfies are on, you'll get a push notification when your themed selfie is ready.
It appears in a pop-up module the next time you open Cantina.
Save it or share it.
About the themes
Some themes will be permanently available to use in the selfie booth after the week ends. Others will be hidden after the campaign ends.
How to opt out
You have a few ways to stop themed selfies:
- From the module: Tap Stop receiving themed selfies below the Imagine more button. Themed selfies stop. Other AI selfies of your avatar continue.
- When you delete one: Tap the trash icon on a themed selfie. In the confirmation, tap Delete to remove just that one, or Delete and stop receiving to remove it and turn themed selfies off going forward.
- From your profile (turns off all AI selfies): Open your profile, tap Edit Avatar, and switch off Allow AI Selfies of Your Avatar. This stops themed selfies and every other AI selfie of your avatar.

How To Create Your Own AI Selfies
What is AI Selfie Booth?
The AI Selfie Booth lets you create fun, personalized AI-generated images of yourself. When you turn on AI Selfies, you can automatically generate AI images of yourself, either in rooms or through the AI Selfie Booth.
How Do I Set Up AI Selfies?
1. Open Cantina

- Tap the Cantina logo on your iOS home screen.
2. Start the Setup

- Tap the Take AI Selfies button
3. Upload a Base Image

- Tap Edit to upload or update your base image.
- Your base image will be used to generate all AI Selfies, so choose a clear photo with good lighting and your face looking forward.
4. Add Attributes

- Fill in your details such as:
- Age*
- Ethnicity*
- Gender*
- Clothing Style
- Hair Color
- Eye Color*
- Fields marked with an asterisk are required

5. Save Your AI Selfie
- Once done, tap the Back button (top right), then tap Close to save your AI Selfie profile.
How Do I Add a Theme or Prompt in AI Selfie Booth?
You can personalize your AI Selfie using:
- Themes - Choose from a variety of pre-made looks
- Custom Prompts - Add your own creative details
After selecting a Theme or writing a Prompt, tap the blue arrow to generate your image.
How Do I Share an AI Selfie?
If you like a selfie you've created:
- Tap Share to post it
- Or tap the image, then tap the three dots (top right) for more options:
- Copy Link
- Save Image
- Add to Favorite
- Set as Profile Avatar
- Show in Your Profile's Media
How Do I Automatically Take AI Selfies in Rooms?
To make your profile respond to "selfie" requests automatically:
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap AI Selfies
3. Toggle on Take AI Selfies in Room
Troubleshooting
"My AI Selfie from the Photo Booth doesn't match the clothing style I want in the prompt."
Your AI Selfie is using the clothing style set in your AI Selfie Booth settings. To resolve this:
- Go back to Edit
- Select Custom under Clothing Style
- Make sure it matches the style you're describing in your selfie prompt
💡 Tip: Start with "Casual" to get a good base look, then go back and edit later!
"I don't like my AI Selfie - it doesn't look like me."
Here are some ways to improve your result:
- Use a straight-on photo with good lighting
- Try uploading a different base image
- If the first result seems off, regenerate a few selfies and select the one that looks most like you
- Toggle on Take AI Selfies
How to Make Your Profile Private
Your profile is public by default when you create an account on Cantina. Switching your profile to private means only people you follow and follow you back will see your full profile. Others will see limited info, including your name and bio.
On iOS
- Tap your avatar in the top left to open your profile.
- Tap Edit in the top right corner.
- Tap App Settings from the menu.
On Android
- Tap your avatar to open your profile.
- Tap the Settings icon
in the top right of the avatar card.
- Under Account Details, tap Privacy.
- Toggle Private Profile on.
On Web
- Click your avatar at the bottom-left of the sidebar.
- Click Settings from the menu.
- Under the Account Details tab, click Privacy.
- Toggle Private Profile on.
How to Change Cantina Background
You can switch your Cantina background to either light or dark according to your preference.
To adjust your background appearance on iOS:
- Tap your avatar in the top left corner.
- Select
Settings from the menu.
- Tap Appearance.
- Select from the following:
- Dark
- Light
- System - default phone setting
To adjust your background appearance on Web:
- Tap the
Profile from the left menu.
- Select
Settings.
- Scroll down to Appearance.
- Select from the following:
- Dark
- Light
- System - default web setting

How to Change Your Display Name
Follow these instructions to change your display name on Cantina. Your display name must be at least 2 characters.
On iOS
- Tap your avatar in the top left to open your profile.
- Tap Edit in the top right corner.
- Tap Edit Profile from the menu.
- Adjust your Name.
- Tap Save in the top right to confirm.
On Android
- Tap your avatar to open your profile.
- Tap Edit Profile on the profile card.
- Adjust your Name.
On Web
- Click your avatar at the bottom-left of the sidebar.
- Click View profile from the menu.
- Click Edit in the top right of your profile page.
- Adjust your Name in the modal.
- Click Save.
How to Change Your Profile Photo
When you create your account, add a profile picture to represent who you are so that people can easily recognize you in a room.
To update your profile photo on iOS:
- Tap your avatar in the top left corner.
- Then tap
Edit Profile.
- Tap
on the bottom right of the small profile photo square.
- Select a photo from your photo library or take a selfie.
- Tap Save to add your new photo.
To update your profile photo on Android:
- Tap
Profile in the bottom right corner.
- Then tap
Edit Profile.
- Tap
on the bottom right of the small profile photo square.
- Select a photo from your photo library or take a selfie.
- Tap Save to add your new photo.
To update your profile photo on the Web:
- Tap the
Profile from the left menu.
- Then tap
to edit your profile.

Reporting and Blocking

If you receive unwanted communication from another member on Cantina, you can block them.
Blocking will prevent them from being able to follow or search for you, communicate with you directly, invite you to rooms, see rooms you are a member of, and enter any rooms you create.
If you enter a room where the person you blocked is already a member or if they're present in the room, you will be notified upon entering the room: Heads up -Someone you blocked (@membername) is in this room.
A member you have blocked will not receive a notification that you have blocked them.
BLOCK A MEMBER
To block someone on iOS:
- Tap on the member's avatar.
- Tap View Profile.
- Tap
More.
- Tap Block @username.
- Confirm by tapping Block.
- Tap Dismiss.
To block someone on Android
- Tap on the member's avatar.
- Tap
in the top right corner of their profile screen.
- Tap Block @username.
- Confirm by tapping Block.
- Tap Dismiss.
Note: Blocking a user is not available on web.
UNBLOCK A MEMBER
To unblock someone from a room on iOS:
- Tap on the member's avatar.
- Tap View Profile.
- Tap
More.
- Tap Unblock @username.
To unblock someone from the room on Android
- Tap on the member's avatar.
- Tap Unblock.
You can also unblock them by going to your profile settings or by visiting their profile.
To unblock someone from your profile settings on iOS, Android and Web:
- Tap on your Profile.
- Select Settings.
- Select Privacy.
- Select Blocked Users.
- Click Unblock next to the person you'd like to unblock.
- Confirm by tapping Unblock.
To unblock someone by visiting their profile on iOS:
1. Tap on the member's avatar
2. Tap Unblock @username.
To unblock someone by visiting their profile on Android:
1. Tap on the member's avatar.
2. Tap Unblock.
To unblock someone by visiting their profile on Web:
1. Tap on the member's avatar
2. Tap More.
3. Tap Unblock @username.
How to Report Offensive Content
We want everybody engaging in Cantina to feel safe. If you encounter content or interactions that make you feel uncomfortable, there are tools at your disposal to flag those experiences to us.
To report content posted in the chat on iOS and Android:
- Press and hold the content you want to report.
- Tap Flag.
- Select a reason for your report from the list. If you select Something Else, you will be asked to provide a brief description of the content you're reporting.
- Tap Send Report.
- After your report is submitted, the reported content will be unable to be viewed by anyone in the room.
To report content posted in the chat on the Web:
- Click the
next to the content you want to report.
- Click Report Message.
- Select a reason for your report from the list. If you select Something Else, you will be asked to provide a brief description of the content you're reporting.

Cantina may send you SMS text messages as part of the Cantina Service. This article explains what messages you might receive and how to manage them.
What Messages Will I Receive?
You may receive SMS messages related to your Cantina account, including:
- Account verification and security codes
- Notifications about your waitlist status
- Updates and reminders about accessing the app
- Messages when friends invite you to connect on Cantina
Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on your account activity. You may receive occasional reminders if you haven't accessed the app yet.
Costs
Cantina does not charge for SMS messages. Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.
How to Opt Out
Reply STOP to any Cantina text message to stop receiving SMS. You'll receive a confirmation that you've been opted out.
Note: Opting out of SMS will not affect your Cantina account. You can still use the app normally.

How to Manage Room Notifications
Manage the notifications you receive from Cantina by updating your settings to match your preferences.
1. SNOOZE ROOM
To adjust Snooze on iOS and Android:
- Inside your room, tap the room name at the top of the screen.
- Then tap on
for more.
- Tap Notifications.
- Toggle Snooze on will temporarily stop all notifications, but activities will still appear in your activity feed.
Note: This feature is currently unavailable on the web.
2. CHAT MESSAGES
To adjust the Chat Message notifications on iOS and Android:
- Inside your room, tap the room name at the top of the screen.
- Then tap on
for more.
- Tap Notifications.
- Under Chat Messages, you can select from the following:
- Default - The default for the room is Summaries Per User.
- All Messages - Receive all messages
- Summary Per User - Receive a summary of chat messages from each user, and full messages when you are mentioned.
- Summary Per Room - Receive a summary of chat messages for the room, and full messages when you are mentioned.
- Mentions Only - Receive messages when you are mentioned.
- None
To adjust the Chat Message notifications on Web:
- Inside your room, click the room name at the top of the screen.
- Then click on
and select Edit Room Properties.
- Select Notifications.
- Under Chat Messages, you can select from the following:

6. ROOM UPDATES
To adjust Room Updates notifications on iOS and Android:

- Toggle Room Updates on if you want to be notified when important room properties are changed, such as name, topic, or privacy settings.

Account and Sign In

If you have changed your telephone number and are having trouble logging into an existing Cantina account, you may still be able to log in.
To log in to an existing account when you have a verified email registered on Cantina on iOS and Android:
- After installing the Cantina app on your device, tap Get Started and enter your old phone number.
- Tap Send code.
- Tap the Get Help option that appears after a couple of seconds of being on the verification code entry screen.
- Tap the Send by email option.
- If you have a verified email with Cantina, you will receive an email with a code that will allow you to sign in to your original account.
- Once you have signed in, update the phone number in your profile settings with your new number.
NOTE: This feature is not available on web.
To log in to an existing account when you do not have a verified email registered on Cantina:
If you no longer have access to the telephone number you used to create your Cantina account and you do not have a verified email attached to your account, you will be unable to access your old account and will need to sign up for a new Cantina account.
How to Log Out of Your Account
When you need to step away from your account — to switch accounts, hand the phone to someone else, or just take a break — here's how to log out.
How to log out
On iOS and Android
- Tap your Profile.
- Tap the three dots.
- Tap Manage account.
- Tap Log out.
On the Web
- Click your account name at the bottom of the screen.
- Click Log out.
What happens to your stuff
Your bots, Storylines, Rooms, and account info are all tied to your account, not the device. They'll all be there when you log back in.
How to Delete Your Account
We're sorry to see you go. Keep in mind that you'll permanently lose ownership of your Rooms and followers when you delete your Cantina account.
How to delete your account
On iOS and Android
- Tap your Profile.
- Tap the three dots.
- Tap Manage account.
- Tap Delete account.
On the Web
- Click your account name at the bottom left of the screen.
- Click Settings.
- Click Support.
- Click Delete account at the bottom.
How to Update Your Phone Number
If you change your phone number, it is important to update Cantina with your new number to continue to have access to your account.
Your phone number can only be changed on the iOS or Android apps.
To update your phone number on iOS:
- Tap your avatar in the top left corner.

Select
Settings from the menu.
- Tap Manage Account.
- Tap your old phone number, then select Continue.
- Input your new phone number and tap Send Code.
- Enter the verification code received, and you're now all set.
To update your phone number on Android:
- Tap
Profile in the bottom right corner.

Tap
or
Settings.
- Tap your old phone number.
- Input your new phone number and tap Send Code.
- Enter the verification code received, and you're now all set.
If you lose access to the telephone number, you may still be able to access your account with a verified email.
Note: All rooms, messages and settings will be transferred to the new number. This change cannot be undone.
How to Update Your Email Address
Add your email to keep your account safe if you lose access to your phone number.
Your email address can only be changed on the iOS or Android apps.
To update your email address on iOS:
- Tap your avatar in the top left corner.
- Select
Settings from the menu.
- Tap Manage Account.
- Tap on your current email address.
- Enter your new email address and tap Continue.
- Check your email to verify and secure your Cantina account.
To update your email address on Android:
- Tap
Profile in the bottom right corner.
- Tap
or
Settings.
- Tap on your current email address.
- Enter your new email address and tap Continue.
- Check your email to verify and secure your Cantina account.
Note: Not available on web, can only be changed in the mobile app.
