There are two ways to get a video out of your character. Quick videos are fast and use what your character already has. HQ videos are made with new images and new motion. You can start either one from the Imagine tab, and you can also get a quick video right in chat. Both are useful, and this article shows when each is the right fit.
On the web? Web is in beta — some video features may be delayed or behave differently than on mobile.
New to the words? Quick video, HQ video, base video, prompt, and bot are all defined in the Cantina Glossary.
Quick comparison
| Quick video | HQ Video | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you make it | In chat with your character, or the Imagine tab | The Imagine tab |
| Speed | Takes less time to generate | Takes more time to generate |
| What's freshly generated | Just the audio (and lip movement) | Everything: new images, new motion |
| Visual variety | Bound to your character's base videos | Wide, whatever your prompt describes |
| Best for | Quick replies, casual back-and-forth | Specific scenes, share-worthy moments |
Quick note about quick videos. In a quick video, you can tell the character what to say or what topic to talk about, not what to do. Actions, camera moves, and specific settings are for HQ videos.
Quick videos
A quick video is a short clip of your character. There are two ways to make one:
- In chat: tap Create Video and select the lines you want from the chat. You can also tap a line of dialogue and create a video from there.
- In the Imagine tab: pick Quick and type your prompt.
It feels almost instant, because the app isn't generating fresh visuals every time. Behind the scenes, your character has a small set of base videos generated when you first created it. A quick video lip-syncs new audio onto one of those base videos, so the response returns in seconds.
Good for:
- Conversational replies in chat
- Reactions and quick takes
- When you want a video right away
Tips:
- Short prompts work fine in the Imagine tab. You're not asking for a new scene, just a new line.
- Variety comes from your character. If quick videos start to feel repetitive, your character's base videos may need a refresh.
HQ videos: specific scenes
An HQ video is made in Imagine. You give Imagine a prompt, and it generates new images and puts them together into a fresh video. Because everything is made new, you can get almost any scene you describe. It just takes a few minutes.
Good for:
- A specific scene you have in your head
- Trying out a new look or vibe for your character
- Story moments that wouldn't work as a quick reply
Tips:
- Descriptive prompts pay off here. The more detail, the closer the result. See Prompting 101.
- Keep creating while it generates. You can leave the app and come back. Your video will be in My Videos on mobile or your Queue on web.
Pick by intent
- Replying in a conversation? Quick video.
- Want a specific scene with new visuals? HQ video.
- Trying a new vibe for your character? HQ video.
- Casual back-and-forth? Quick video.
Which one is better?
Neither. Quick videos reuse your character's base videos, so they're ready in seconds. HQ videos make everything new, so you can describe any scene you want. Pick the one that fits what you're making.
